Sony Mini System
60CD MP3 2.4GHz Stereo - 2002
Truly a bridge between eras in music with feet in both the physical and digital worlds. It holds 60 discs (!) yet will broadcast MP3s from your computer (!) and it was the last Sony shelf system with a cassette deck. WiFi and Bluetooth weren't yet widely adopted in mobile devices so in went a reliable 2.4GHz system we called W.A.T. which was inspired by and subsequently confused with watts of power. The curvier model was to be the more refined successor but unfortunately only made it to working prototype stage.
This was the first project I led from start to finish but maybe the last I'll ever style after an anime robot; it earned me the nickname Gundam amongst my Tokyo colleagues and a spot in a New York Times article about gender roles in product design.
